Wed Apr 10 2013 – Rain, Mats and Ticks

It seems the rain just is not ready to let up and I think I speak for everyone when I say I just want some sun! It is very important for longer coated dogs that you pay special attention to matting when the weather is wet. If mats are forming the rain will make them tighter so make sure you brush your dog out completely before going out in the rain as well as after he/she is dry.

Another concern this time of year in Victoria is pests! Fleas and ticks are abundant right now and if you haven’t already, make sure you apply flea prevention such as Advantage. Look for types that kill all life cycles – including the eggs. Mount Doug is a hot spot for ticks right now so we recommend you stay away! Check for ticks often especially on long haired breeds.
